Truth, Compassion & the Balance We Create Together

Aloha Beloved Community,

Sometimes we first notice an imbalance through a quiet feeling.

A commitment begins to feel heavy. We leave a conversation with words still resting in our throat. We long for more tenderness, more reciprocity, or room to be ourselves.

The Libra New Moon invites us to listen to these feelings with curiosity and care. They may be showing us where a relationship, a rhythm, or an agreement is ready to evolve.

For this lunation, we turn toward Ma’at and the practice of right relationship—exploring how truth, compassion, and responsibility can guide the way we live.

When Is the Libra New Moon?

The Sun and Moon meet on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at approximately 17°22′ Libra.

Exact New Moon: 5:50 AM Hawaiʻi · 8:50 AM Pacific · 11:50 AM Eastern.

Our free online ceremony takes place later that day at 3 PM Hawaiʻi · 6 PM Pacific · 9 PM Eastern.

The Truth Beneath Our Longing for Harmony

Libra brings our attention to partnership, beauty, cooperation, and the balance between our own needs and those of others.

At this New Moon, Venus—Libra’s ruling planet—is retrograde in Scorpio and forms a nearly exact square with Mars in Leo. The lunation also forms a sextile to Jupiter in Leo, alongside a wider, separating opposition to Saturn in Aries.

Through an astrological lens, Venus retrograde invites us to review what we value: the ways we love, the agreements we keep, and our relationship with receiving and self-worth.

Her square with Mars brings a symbolic tension between inward reflection and outward assertion. We may want time to understand our feelings while also sensing that something needs to be expressed or changed.

This is an invitation to notice our patterns. Do we accommodate before checking in with ourselves? Do we expect others to recognize a need we have never named? Can we express a desire while leaving room for another person’s honest response?

Jupiter offers a thread of courage and creative possibility. Alongside the deeper work, we can notice what brings joy: a nourishing friendship, an inspiring collaboration, or the ease of being with someone around whom we can soften.

Ma’at: Truth as a Living Practice

In ancient Egyptian tradition, Ma’at is both a goddess and a principle associated with truth, justice, and the right ordering of the world. Her ostrich feather is a familiar emblem, appearing in depictions of the weighing of the heart.

These ancient images connect the heart with the conduct of a life.

In our contemporary Temple practice, we approach Ma’at as an invitation to bring our spiritual values into our relationships and daily choices.

We ask:

Does the way I am living reflect what my heart knows to be true?

We can explore this through honest speech, fair agreements, shared responsibility, and care for the living world. We can also examine our impact: whether we have listened, honored a commitment, or followed an apology with meaningful repair.

Right relationship makes room for our own dignity and the dignity of others. Compassionate boundaries help us give from a place we can sustain.

A Wider Circle of Care

Our relationships extend beyond the people closest to us. We belong to communities, to the Earth, and to a world in which every person’s dignity matters.

When we witness suffering or injustice, we may feel grief, anger, or uncertainty. Our practice can help us remain present to those feelings and discern a meaningful response.

That response might be practical support, attentive listening, speaking up, or standing beside someone who needs care.

As we cultivate steadiness within, we can ask how our actions contribute to greater compassion and fairness around us.

October’s Fire Horse Theme: Shadow, Truth & Liberation

Our Year of the Fire Horse Visioning Guide names October’s themes as shadow, truth, and liberation.

For this lunation, we can gently examine an old role or unspoken agreement. Some commitments still nourish us. Others may need to change as our circumstances and understanding evolve.

Acknowledging this can open space for a more conscious choice.

Choose one place where you would welcome greater balance, and give it your attention over the coming two weeks.

A Simple Practice for Living in Ma’at

Settle somewhere comfortable. Feel the support beneath you and take three gentle breaths.

Bring one relationship or commitment to mind. Journal with these questions:

  • What am I ready to acknowledge?
  • What needs care or appreciation?
  • What would a more honest and nourishing agreement look like?
  • What is one step I can take with courage and kindness?

Choose a manageable action: make a clear request, express appreciation, revisit a commitment, or create more room for rest.

Return to your intention over the coming two weeks. Like tending a garden, balance asks us to observe, respond, and return.
